The outbreak of the COVID-19 has posed additional challenges for mineworkers to claim their owed social security and compensation benefits. The closure of borders has limited the ability for ex-mineworkers to travel to employment countries to complete administrative requirements while the tracing of miners cannot be done because it compromises the health and safety of ex-mineworkers’ families.
